Three years living in Germany and I finally made it to Oktoberfest! Holly and I went to three shops in Wurzburg last week in search of the perfect Dirndls. We both found beautiful ones and got really excited for our trip. My friend Nadin lives in Munich, so we arranged to go with her to the fest and spend the night in her apartment. The day started out a little rough after we missed our first train and it was raining when we got to Munich, but we were way too excited to let that get us down. After getting dressed in our dirndls, we stopped at a restaurant near Nadin's to eat some delicious German food and wait for it to stop raining. It stopped just when we were finishing dinner! We took the tram and followed the hundreds of dirndl and lederhosen clothed people off to the festival.
It's getting harder and harder for people to get seats at tables inside of the tents and we quickly saw how true that is. We searched through three tents (it was rare that we even got into the tents) and had no luck finding a spot at a table. Finally we found a big space at a table right outside of one of the tents. There was a heater right beside it, so it was perfect! We sat next two three guys from Denmark and had people from Austria and the US sitting at the other end for parts of the night. It was so much fun just to meet so many people, see everyone dressed up, and be a part of the 7+ million people that go to Oktoberfest. Can't wait to go back again someday!
