A Weekend in Gijon

Elena, me, and Isabel

Last weekend we lost to the second place team and they are now ahead of us. It was our first loss at home and the team just looked really bad. We were 1/18 from the 3 point line, and instead of trying to use the guys inside who could shoot, they continued throwing up more bad 3 pointers. Chris was on the bench for a lot of the end of the game when he should have been playing, and no one could tell you why! He still had a pretty good game with 10 points, but we were all really upset that we lost. We are now in second place and have to win every game we have left and hope that the 1st place team loses one so that we can be back in first.

Luckily, this weekend the team looked a lot better. They really worked hard the entire game and looked more for each other. Chris played most of the game and did really well. He had 13 points and put a big stop on their scoring underneath. There were over 200 of our fans at the game, which was pretty good considering it was over 3 hours from home. They took two fan buses and a lot of people drove themselves. I traveled to the game with three of my friends on the train. We got an apart-hotel for the four of us to spend the night in the city. Gijon is a nice city on the coast, but unfortunately the weather definitely wasn't beach weather! We still had fun touring the city and going out together Saturday night after the game.
Chris was interviewed this week by the local newspaper, and you can read it here in Spanish: http://www.nortecastilla.es/20090331/deportes_palencia/baloncesto/faymasa-tiene-centrarse-suyo-20090331.html
