American Roadtrip

Chris and I decided to drive across country to visit my Mom's new home in Arizona for a few days before he left for Germany. At first we were somewhat fearful of 3000+ mile (4800 km) drive, we thought it would be a great opportunity to see a lot of the US that we had never seen before. We had a wonderful time and couldn't have been any luckier with no speeding tickets, accidents, breakdowns, or even bad hotel rooms along the way! Chris even did a good job of getting to the gym and working out in various cities along the way.

On the first day we drove through Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana to spend two nights with Chris' cousins' Chuck and Laura in Indianapolis. It was great visiting with them and catching up after not seeing them since our wedding. After we left Indy, we drove through Illinois and Missouri and spent the night with the Pauldings, Chris' teammate last season, in Kansas City. We had a great dinner with them and met up with former Gottingen teaammate, Ben Jacobson, later that evening. In the morning Rickey and Chris worked out and played pickup before we headed out for our long drive to Colorado. We spent the night in Craig Ranch Bed and Breakfast, which was a very cozy house on a cattle ranch. The next day we did a beautiful scenic drive through the Colorado Rockies! We saw so many great views of the mountains, Colorado River, and nature in general. We started out with shorts on at the bottom and ended up in snow at the top! After the Rockies, we spent the next day driving through Arches National Park and Monument Valley. We hiked a little in the park and got to see lots of the great arches. After that long drive, we spent the night in a hotel in Navajo Nation. The next morning we finally met up with Mom and Dale for a biking tour of the Grand Canyon and ended our trip at their house in Vistania. What a fun and exciting trip!
